Discover the Best of
Tanzania
A
recognized leader in the aviation industry in Tanzania, we began in
1997 with one pilot and one aircraft. We are a sister company of the
long-established Airkenya Aviation, and we are based in the northern
town of Arusha. Arusha is the starting point of safaris into
northern Tanzania.
Within five years, we have carried over 100.000 passengers. Our
fleet now offers four aircraft, allowing for the transport of 57
passengers at a time. Regional Air Services only operate turboprop
aircraft as these are proven to be the most reliable type of engines
from safety statistic conducted in the Unites States.
We now operate twice daily flights to Lake Manyara, Seronera and
Grumeti (both in the Serengeti) as well as daily morning flights to
Klein's Camp (on the north-east boundary of the Serengeti). In
addition to our scheduled flights, we offer private charters to any
destination within East, Central and Southern Africa.
Onwards Flights
Our schedule links with Airkenya's flights to and from Nairobi and
also with flights to and from Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam and the Selous.
Group Travel
We have considered experience of moving medium to large groups
anywhere in East Africa. Both Captain Iris McCallum, (our GM), and
John Buckley, (our MD), are members of the East African Chapter of
the Society of incentive Travel Executives (SITE).
Personnel
The Company presently employs 37 staff, 8 of whom are pilots. At the
controls, from the start is Captain Iris McCallum. One of East
Africa's best-known pilots, Iris has flown for over 28 years in many
parts of Africa and has over 15,600 hours. Iris has built a
reputation for Regional Air Services based on safety, reliability
and friendly efficiency. (Iris was awarded the "Guinness Stout
Effort" award for bravery in flying in 1980, an acclaim not endowed
on many.)
Honours
Setting standards like flying only turbo-prom aircraft, and
recruiting the best pilots, Regional Air Services has maintained its
poll position amongst the proliferation of air charter companies in
Tanzanian. Visiting dignitaries and celebrities, have for the most
part, flow with us. A recent on is pictured below; the President of
Finland flew in February 2003, booked by the Government of Tanzania.
Insurance
Considered an important facto in the business, each aircraft carries
a combined passenger/third party liability cover of US$50 million as
well as the recent hull war risk cover. The insurance is placed in
the London underwriting market through eh Company's brokers, Marsh
Ltd. (formerly Sedgwick Aviation Ltd.) in London.
Maintenance
We only operate turbo-prop aircraft as these are proven the most
reliable type of engines from safety statistics conducted in the
United States.
Our maintenance and engineering is done by Airkenya in Nairobi,
Kenya, which is a workstation approved by the America Federal
Aviation Authority, the British Civil Aviation Authority as well as
the Kenya and Tanzania Directorates of Civil Aviation. All aircraft
are fitted with weather avoidance systems (radar) as well as HF
radios to enable communication with the offices, other aircraft and
clients.
Approvals
We have been selected as the personnel carrier for a number of
multi-national companies like Anglo American, BP, Resolute Mining
and Abbot Laboratories. Approval is only given after conducting
thorough technical and operational audit, and the standards are met.
